【Recycling of beverage containers / Manufacturing of RPF】
Entrusted with the intermediate treatment business of glass bottles, cans and PET bottles by a local government of Koto-Ward, Tokyo
Manufacturing of RPF in Keihinjima factory mainly for the time being
Ariake Kougyo Co., Ltd.

From April 2016, Ariake Kougyo (Head Office is in Koto-Ward, Tokyo) began to contract with a local government of Koto-Ward regarding intermediate treatment of glass bottles, cans, and PET bottles.
Since a recycling facility of a local government of Koto-Ward was supposed to be closed with aging, Ariake Kougyo took over the recycling of beverage containers which had been managed by a local government of Koto-ward.

For a long time, Ariake Kougyo has been working on business such as recycling of metal scraps, intermediate treatment of industrial waste & municipal solid waste by shredding & sorting, manufacturing of RPF (Refuse derived paper and plastic densified fuel), and so on.
Concerning a recycling of municipal solid waste, they have been entrusted with sorted collection of plastic containers and packaging wastes since 2009 and recycling of non-combustible garbage since 2015 by a local government of Koto-Ward.
At this time, they introduced new facilities for recycling of glass bottles, cans, and PET bottles in their recycling factory called "Recycling Port" (Koto-Ward).
They took over employees who worked in recycling facility of a local government of Koto-Ward.

By new facilities in Wakasu Factory, Ariake Kougyo works on recycling of beverage containers as follows.
Glass bottles: Their employees sort glass bottles on a belt conveyor to 5 colors (green, transparent, brown, black, and other colors) by hand.
Cans: Their employees sort steel cans and aluminum cans with sorting machines, and press them respectively.
PET bottles: Their employees press PET bottles after removal of a foreign matter with a dedicated machine.
Then, they ship each recycled resources to dedicated recycling companies.

For RPF, Ariake Kogyo manufactures the RPF of about 1300t a month with a new facility which began operation in October 2015 in their Keihinjima Factory (Ota-Ward, Tokyo) mainly for the time being.
They ship RPF to paper manufacturers for an alternative fuel and chemical manufacturer for a raw material of chemically recycling.
Recently, they restore their main RPF manufacturing facility in their "Recycling Port" which experienced a fire accident in January 2016.

Putting movie of the art project using the trash in Brazil on screen and exchanging clothing

On April 24, 2016, CHAIRS and xCgange held the event which consists of watching a documentary movie "Waste Land", speech by Mr. Ryota Nakano (ECOMOTION Co., Ltd.), and exchanging clothing at GINZA CHAIRS (Chuo-Ward, Tokyo). Participants learned the situation of waste recycling in Brazil & the art project and new activities of reusing & recycling in Japan.

The movie "Waste Land" introduced the project to procure joint art works by Mr. Vik Muniz, a famous global artist, and resource recovery people in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mr. Muniz produced huge portrait works of people who recover the resources such as metal scraps, waste paper, and plastic scraps in Jardin Gramacho disposal site using wastes and recycled resources as material. He made the photographic works of those portraits. The revenue of those works became $ 250,000. The association of resource recovery people built a training center with those funds.

Mr. Nakano and Mr. Shota Ushiyama (xChange) talked about the situation that many usable products are discarded in Japan. They pointed out that it is important to build an efficient network of reusing and recycling in Japan.
In addition, the person in charge of Winroader Co., Ltd. (Head Office is in Tokyo), a sponsor company of this event, introduced their service which collect disused items and sell them as reused items on behalf of customers.

The xChange and Kanbe Tochi Tatemono Co., Ltd. (Shinagawa-Ward, Tokyo) organized this event.
The xChange works on finding an opportunity to review the life style through the clothing exchange event.
Kanbe Tochi Tatemono operates the CHAIRS for promoting a sustainable business from the Ginza.

【Material recycling / Manufacturing of RPF, Re-marketing business】
Renewing the intermediate treatment plant of industrial waste and increasing the processing capacity

Nakadai Co., Ltd.

Nakadai (Head Office is in Shinagawa-Ward, Tokyo) has completed the renovation of industrial waste intermediate treatment plant called "Mono:Factory Maebashi" (Maebashi-City, Gunma Prefecture) by March 2016.
At this renovation, they increased the processing capacity of recycling facility such as RPF (Refuse derived paper and plastic densified fuel) manufacturing facility and waste wood shredder, and improved the work environment of factory.

Nakadai got the permission of the industrial waste intermediate treatment business in 1992. Then, they have been promoting a business rooted in the community. Concerning waste plastics, they have been promoting reusing, material recycling, and manufacturing of RPF.
Since the intermediate treatment facilities have been aging, they have been successively renovating various recycling facilities from spring in 2014.
At this time, they built a new building and moved all of the waste treatment facilities & recycling facilities indoors.
They renewed some recycling facilities such as shredder for waste plastics, waste wood shredder, RPF manufacturing facility, and so on.
For example, they replaced the waste wood shredder and tripled the wood chip production capacity.
For RPF manufacturing facilities, they modified the ancillary facilities such as continuous feeding equipment of wastes and cooling equipment of RPF. They doubled the production capacity of RPF.

In addition, Nakadai has been developing the Social Business called "Remarketing" which creates the way of use and design of discard. As a part of the "Remarketing", they have held various events or workshops with various companies, universities, artists, and inhabitants.
On April 2, 2016, Nakadai held the regional exchange meeting in collaboration with the Maebashi Kyoai Gakuen College at the "Mono factory Maebashi". About 450 people participated in this event.
On the trailer of Nakadai, many students of Maebashi Kyoai Gakuen College performed some attractions.

【Recycling of plastic scraps including used PET bottle】
Increasing the amount of compression such as a PET bottle significantly
Introducing a new full automatic baling facility in their Yokohama Logistic Center

Shinnan (Head Office is in Shinagawa-Ward, Tokyo) introduced a new full automatic baling facility for recycling various scraps including used PET bottle in their Yokohama Logistic Center (Atsugi-City, Kanagawa Prefecture).
At the Yokohama Logistic Center, they put the used PET bottles to a new baling facility through the belt conveyor.
The baling facility detects the amount of PET bottles with an optical sensor, presses them strongly, and binds them with iron wire. The baling facility has a pressing capacity of 6t per hour at the most.
They press the PET bottle to a bale of the dimensions of the 1,000mm (width)×850mm(height)×1,600mm(depth). The weight of this bale is about 600kg per piece.

Shinnan has developed the full automatic baling facility themselves.
They also plan to sell the full automatic baling facility to other recycling companies.
Mr. Kyosuke Saito, President of Shinnan, said, "It is possible to gain the bale of PET bottle of about 25t on 40-foot containers. We are able to increase the pressing volume and transportation volume significantly."

HANDY TECHNO (Head Office is in Shibuya-Ward, Tokyo) manufactures and ships the wood-plastic composite material "HANDYWOOD" of 3,000t per year. In recent years, the sales of HANDYWOOD have been increasing at 10 percent per year.
HANDYWOOD is a recycled material using unused lumber and recycled plastics (recycled plastic containers and packaging pellet).
In the market of wood-plastic composite material using recycled plastic containers and packaging pellet, HANDY TECHNO has the largest number of sales in Japan.
In 2011, HANDY TECHNO participated in LIXIL group, the comprehensive and connected global company in the housing and building industry.
In the future, they would like to increase the sales of HANDYWOOD to residential.

At first, HANDY TECHNO blends the mixing & molding wood powder (40 % by weight ratio), mixing recycled pellets of polyethylene and polypropylene made from recycled plastic containers & packaging material or PET bottle cap scrap (50 % by weight ratio), and various additives for improvement of properties (10% by weight ratio) for raw material of HANDYWOOD. Then, they manufacture various HANDYWOOD products by extrusion molding, injection molding, and so on. HANDYWOOD is single compound material.

HANDYWOOD has superior characteristics such as superior strength, high weather resistance, strong wear and scratch resistance, re-recyclable system, and so on.
In addition, HANDY TECHNO also clarifies traceability of raw materials of HANDYWOOD. They know the supply history concerning unused lumber and recycled plastic pellet for each of HANDYWOOD products.
